Magnificent Movement!
I love Pits Qimirpik's work.
I particularly love his muskox.
*Spanish Moss* highlights all the Qimirpik magic,
He is meticulous in his details. Case in point, the multiple etched lines on the torso of the carving. These lines represent the thick, long hair that covers most of the animal's body.
Look at the facial features.
The nose is large with exaggerated nostrils. The mouth is slightly open and the compulsory horns are present.
The light green colour of the stone is highlighted with a darker green in the folds of the hair. This creates depth and interest.
Pits is an internationally respected carver.
You understand why when you take a long look at Spanish Moss.
I am very partial to the Muskox.
But I do believe Spanish Moss is a special Qimirpik piece.
I can see this sculpture as a wonderful gift for a birthday, Mother or Father's Day.
