Over the past 13 years, I have seen many Jimmy Iqaluq loons.
Quite frankly, I believe this is the finest of his loon carvings.
It ticks all the boxes. Precise and perfect. Inspirational. Awe inspiring.
This is a true heritage masterpiece. Jimmy is a Canadian Inuit Master Carver which means that all of his work over his lifetime is sought after and cherished for its beauty and historical value. One of Jimmy's loons is preserved in the Museum of Canadian Civilization in Ottawa, On.
Jimmy Iqaluq is one of the few Master Carvers from the pioneering generation who is still actively carving. But he could retire with a moments notice.
When he retires, all of his precious loons will appreciate in value exponentially. This is the principle of supply and demand which is so much a part of the art world..
There are so many features of this particular loon that make it a loon superstar.
The number one feature is the "roundness" of the head. This is one of those details that only seasoned art enthusiasts would appreciate.
This curvature or roundness of the head is sensual. It is voluptuous. The proportions are perfect. This means the size of the head fits the size of the body perfectly.
I deliberately took a close up of the head so you could feast your eyes.
My heart skipped a beat when I first saw the slightly tilted head of Jimmy’s loon. This subtle posture gives such depth and personality to this exquisite sculpture.
The loon’s eyes are red (Jimmy harvests this red rock from the seashore near his childhood home. They are inserted separately into the bird’s head).
The refined finish of the black argelite stone defines perfection.
Describing the beauty of this loon is like trying to explain why a beautiful woman is so beautiful.
The picture speak for themselves.
There is nothing quite as elegant and serene as a Jimmy Iqaluq loon.
